Scripture Pick: Proverbs 31 Mother

Proverbs 31: A Mother's Wisdom

Scripture Read: Proverbs 31

There are many that don't realize or forget that Proverbs 31 are words of a mother teaching her son about a rare, precious, and great woman. Her first instruction is for her son the king to have righteous judgement and how to conduct himself as a man. Then she moves on to the instruction of what to look for in the right woman.

There is so much more than just what some would say as high expectations to be a righteous woman. As it speaks of the "Proverbs 31" woman and it refers to her husband also. As Proverbs 31 comes to a close, it tells us about how her children call her "Blessed", which is the greatest praise.

As mothers, we have to think of what we want to leave our children with; a bitter spirit, like a bad aftertaste. Or, with wisdom that will taste like a bite of the first fruit of a juicy peach that keeps giving. The mother teaches and gives direct examples of a great character and wisdom (only coming from God) to pass on to the next generations as Proverbs 31 has been given to us.

Scripture Pick: Strength of a Woman!

Proverbs 31:17 ~ “She girdeth her loins with strength and strengtheneth her arms.”

She is a woman who works out and takes care of herself; her temple. She wants to stay fit and in good health to do God's work. She is not obsessed with the flesh! She knows in time her flesh will fade. With a healthy heart she can take on everything and her health will not hold her back. She makes the time, being disciplined.

She will have enough strength to take on not just physical battles, but spiritual too. She's strong in mind, body and spirit. She works hard on her spirit, so her flesh cannot be used against her. Her mind is protected by trusting in God. Her spirit is strengthened by wisdom and learns to stay humble to all God's lessons.

Scripture Pick: What Do We Have In Common With Plants?

Proverbs 31:16 ~ “ She Considereth a field and buyeth it with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.”

                    Image found at smithmountainlakevisitorcenter.com

A woman that looks to the Heavenly Father for guidance on how to grow. How far apart and how deep in the soil to place the seeds. How to water and wash the plants like our Spirit is. She is aware of her investment of the obligations of time, financial and physical. She welcomes commitment and responsibility. From the direction of God and her listening, she gains the confidence to get her hands dirty. Appreciating the time that it takes to water, to prune and the patience of waiting for the vineyard to grow.

We are much like a garden. God places our seed perfectly where it should be. We need nutrients and water to live. We are given room to grow and flourish like a plant when we have followed in line or order with God.

Scripture Pick: A Good Woman is Not Evil

Proverbs 31:12 ~ “She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”

This woman will only have the best intentions in her heart for her husband. She will not try to compete with him, nor kick him when he is down, but will do all in her power to help him back up. This woman would never use her husband or her family as a stepping stone to only better herself. A woman that would not stray, who places value in the family and in it's name. She will not use evil ways by: lying, manipulation, persuasion and any type of deception. This woman is not a “Jezebel”.
