Fashion Pick: Winter Coat 2013

I picked this coat because I own a coat from the Gallery Collection. I have had it for a few years now and it has held up wonderfully. It still looks brand new. The coat fashion for 2013 is knee mid-length coats. This is a Wool walker coat from the Galley Collection. This is a double breasted style with a belt and buckle. I really like this style because of the A-line cut. You can still be cute with a coat on and show some curves. This flatters you and complements your shape. This is a fully lined jacket which adds extra warmth with the wool for the cold weather. I found this coat on overstock.com for $139.99. Stay warm and dry this winter.

Fashion Pick: Stay Warm In This Cowl- Neck Sweater

Image from H&M

This long knit cowl-neck sweater caught my attention. I am a fan of cowl-neck sweaters appose to turtlenecks because they are more roomy. I enjoy having the relaxed fit around my neck. I sometimes  feel like I am being choked in a turtle neck.

I really love the cornflower blue color, this sweater is also available in Cerise and Dark Green.  This is available at H&M for $24.95. This is available in sizes XS-XL and made from 100% acrylic. A stylish way to stay warm.

Fashion Pick: 5 Ways To Keep Warm

It has been super cold and raining in Southern CA. It has been freezing, nothing like our east coast brothers and sisters. Born and raised Californian, we really don't like anything below 60 degrees. There has been a definite cold front everywhere.

Here are 5 ways to keep you warm:

Fleece-   Is usually made from a coat of a sheep. This is good for protecting the skin from moisture. It absorbs very little moisture. The material  is good for layering, because it is a good insulator. Fleece is not that great at protecting from cold wind.

Wool- Is made from sheep's wool. It is a great temperature regulator, even when wet. The fabric protects from cool air. Wool is a little bit pricier but better to protect you from the cold.

Layering- Put on layers and remove them as your body temperature rises. This is great to remember when working out in cold conditions.

Hats- The head releases 45%-90% of the bodies heat. Trap all that body heat with a hat.

Scarfs & Ear Muffs- If you are still freezing try more accessories. Cover the ears with some ear muffs and cover that neck with a scarf.

Image 1 ($22.99 on sale) is a pair of shorts I saw a lady wearing and they were what I first fell in Love with for Summer Fashion. Image 2 ($54.95) are more comfortable and practical for others; especially those who have a little extra cushion in their tushin and a little extra sly on their thighs. When it comes to Summer Fashion always remember to wear responsibly.

Fashion Pick: The Many Ways Of The Scarf

The scarf is a must have by women. There are many ways you can wear the scarf and make it a great accessory to your wardrobe. It can be worn around the neck, tied at the wrist, or added around the purse for an extra flair. Scarves have evolved tremendously by expanding in: colors, patterns, fabrics and different weaving techniques. Scarves have practical uses being used as a protector in dustier climates and to protect against airborne illness. A thin head scarf, Kercheif or Bandanna is usually used to keep the hair clean.

The wearing of the scarf began in 1350 B.C. with the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, who wore a scarf with a head dress. 210 A.D. Romans wore a linen “Sudarium”(sweat cloth) that they would use to wipe the sweat from their face and neck. In 1261 Egyptian belly dancing was created and the scarf was part of the costume, worn on the hips. In the 1700's the French started to wear Cravats to show their political support by what color of scarf they wore. In 1783 Third Duke of Krakow invented the knit scarf. 1810 Beethoven falls for Therese Malfati and tries to win her heart by changing his wardrobe and starts sporting silk neck scarves. 1856 Burberry (maker of fashionable plaid scarves) was founded. 1900's Isadora Duncan (mother of modern dance) was killed by her scarf when it got stuck in the wheel of her automobile. 1914 Knitting of scarves is a patriotic duty in the United States. 1930 Fur Scarves become the must have of France. 1970's The scarf was at Woodstock worn across the: forehead, waist and as a shirt. 2011 Scarves are the Fashion Wow with hats and gloves to match.

Fashion Pick: The Cardigan War

Image found at ebay.com

The history of the Cardigan sweater dates back to the mid 1800s. A British military commander by the name of James Thomas Brudenell was the seventh Earl of Cardigan and the sweater was named after him. The wearing of the Cardigan sweater during the Crimean War made the sweater popular in culture.
The sweater became ever more popular with the French and Irish fisherman. The sweater came in handy on the cold seas.

Both men and women can wear Cardigans. The man's Cardigan is often referred to as the mandigan. Now the sweaters are made out of many different materials. The more traditional materials are wool and cotton that are good for keeping you warm during the cold seasons. With a Cardigan you can add an additional look to your outfit; or create an outfit around your Cardigan. A Cardigan is made by machine or hand knitted. It can be a: fly away, buttoned, tied, zipped or pulled over. It can have extra accents of: fur, snaps and sometimes a belt. There are many cuts to pick from: v-neck, classic jeweled neck, with/without collar and sleeveless. Cardigans have had a lot added over the years and a lot of fabric has been taken away too.

There is an old story that goes around about how a Cardigan once saved a mans life. There was a secret agent trying to kill a Bulgarian radio editor by injecting him with a pellet of poisonous Ricin. The secret agents attempt failed because the Cardigan sweater that the radio editor was wearing was made of a thick wool. This made me wonder if the radio editor wore this Cardigan everyday for the rest of his life. Also if the secret agent acquired a deep dark hatred for the Cardigan.

1865 the letter sweater Cardigan hit the baseball field of Harvard. 1920's Co Co Chanel created the collarless Cardigan jacket with matching skirts. 1950's The thin woolen Cardigan sweater with matching sleeveless pull over and poodle skirt was a staple of this time. 1990's women wore the Cardigans at full length and calf length with pants.

Fashion Pick: History of the Little Black Dress or the "LBD"

Image found at Coco Chanel Blog

The little black dress is one that every woman should own. You can dress it up or dress it down, depending on the function that you are attending.

In May 1926 Coco Chanel published a picture of a short simple black dress that appeared in the American Vogue. It was called by Vogue " Chanel's Ford "

1950's  Dior introduced a LBD "New Look" of sexual conservatism and to symbolize the dangerous woman. 1960's  A mini skirt version of the LBD became popular with cut outs and slits with netting or tulle. 1980's The LBD Made a come back in Vogue. It became popular with the fitness craze and added broad shoulders. 1990's Grunge Culture wore the LBD with combat boots and sandals. 2000's  The reemergence of black and the LBD is more popular than ever.
